Eye Makeup for Different Eye Shapes

One eye makeup look does not suit everyone. Your eye shape determines which techniques will make your eyes pop — and which might actually make them look smaller or tired.

Almond Eyes — The Most Versatile: Lucky almond-eyed beauties can wear virtually any eye look. Classic winged liner suits perfectly — extend the wing slightly upward following your natural eye shape.

Round Eyes — Make Them Look Elongated: Focus on elongating the eye horizontally. Apply dark shadow in the outer corner and blend it outward. Use horizontal liner only on the outer two-thirds of the upper lid. Avoid lining the inner waterline.

Hooded Eyes — The Lifted Look: Hooded eyes have extra skin that falls over the crease. Apply eyeshadow higher than the crease so it's visible when eyes are open. Avoid heavy liner on the mobile lid — it disappears. Use tight-lining (liner on the upper waterline) instead.

Monolid Eyes — Create Dimension: Monolids have no visible crease. Create an illusion of depth by blending a darker shade in a half-moon shape above the center of the eye. Graphic liner looks stunning on monolids.

Deep-Set Eyes — Bring Them Forward: Use light, shimmery shades on the lid to bring the eye forward. Avoid very dark mattes on the lid — they make eyes recede further. Apply highlighter on the brow bone.

Wide-Set Eyes — Draw Them Together: Apply darker shadow and liner on the inner corners to create the illusion of closer-set eyes. Extend brows slightly inward if there's a large gap.

Close-Set Eyes — Create Distance: Apply lighter shades in the inner corner and darker shades in the outer corner. Extend the winged liner outward for a wider appearance.
